Trainee/Junior Estimator

Strong Group are working in partnership with a leading HVAC contractor based in Essex, who are currently looking for a Trainee/Junior Estimator to join their growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with 1-2 years of experience in an M&E (Mechanical & Electrical) background who is keen to develop their career within the HVAC industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • As a Trainee/Junior Estimator, you will play a crucial role in supporting the senior estimating team and contributing to the preparation of accurate and competitive tenders. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting with the preparation of cost estimates for HVAC projects, including installation and maintenance works
  • Reviewing drawings, project specifications, and other documentation to understand project scope
  • Performing material take-offs and producing cost breakdowns
  • Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotations for materials and services
  • Supporting senior estimators in tender preparation, submissions, and post-tender negotiations
  • Maintaining up-to-date records of all estimates, quotations, and tender documents
  • Attending site visits and meetings to gain an understanding of client requirements and project conditions
  • Learning and utilising estimating software to enhance accuracy and efficiency in estimating tasks

Key Skills

  • 1-2 years of experience in an estimating role or a junior position within the M&E or construction sector
  • A basic understanding of HVAC systems or M&E services
  • Strong numerical skills and an eye for detail
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word); experience with estimating software is an advantage
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • A proactive approach to learning and development
  • Full UK driving licence (preferred but not essential)
