Strong Group is working with a leading M&E (Mechanical & Electrical) building services specialist based in Hertfordshire. With a strong reputation in the industry and a growing portfolio of projects, they have recently experienced a great period of growth.
The company delivers high-quality projects across a range of sectors, including commercial, residential, healthcare, and retail, with project values reaching up to £10M.
To support this continued expansion, they are seeking an Intermediate M&E Quantity Surveyor to join their dynamic and dedicated team on a permanent basis.
Job Summary:
As an Intermediate M&E Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing the commercial aspects of M&E projects, ensuring cost control, contract management, and value maximisation. You will play a critical role in ensuring that projects are delivered on budget and contribute to the overall profitability of the company. Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all commercial aspects of M&E projects, including cost management, contract administration, and procurement.
- Prepare, submit, and negotiate valuations, variations, and final accounts for mechanical and electrical packages.
- Conduct regular cost reporting, including forecasting and budget management, to ensure projects remain within financial targets.
- Assess and negotiate subcontractor and supplier contracts, ensuring the best possible commercial terms.
- Assist in the preparation and agreement of project claims, ensuring timely submission of all relevant documentation.
- Conduct risk and value management assessments on projects to identify potential cost-saving opportunities and minimise risks.
- Liaise with project managers, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure all commercial and contractual matters are understood and met.
- Ensure compliance with contract terms and conditions, monitoring project progress against agreed benchmarks.
- Attend project meetings to provide commercial input and advise on contractual matters.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the M&E or building services sector, ideally at an intermediate level.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and services, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical installations.
- Excellent knowledge of contract management, particularly NEC or JCT contracts.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to manage budgets, forecasts, and variations effectively.
- Proficiency in using quantity surveying software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Relevant qualifications in quantity surveying, building services, or a related field (HND, HNC, or degree level preferred).
