Strong Group are working with a Reinforced Concrete specialist in South Wales who are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Quantity Surveyor with extensive experience in reinforced concrete and civil engineering projects to join them on a permanent basis.
As a key member of the commercial team, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of major infrastructure and construction projects, ensuring cost control, contract management, and financial planning are delivered at the highest standard.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Management & Estimating:
Prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for reinforced concrete and civil engineering works.
Monitor project costs and conduct regular cost reporting, ensuring projects remain within budget.
Identify cost variances and take corrective actions when necessary.
Contract Administration:
Manage the preparation, negotiation, and execution of contracts, subcontracts, and procurement agreements.
Ensure compliance with contractual terms, reviewing and advising on contracts to mitigate risks.
Administer variations, valuations, and claims while maintaining accurate records.
Project Financial Control:
Prepare and manage cash flow forecasts, financial reports, and cost-value reconciliations.
Conduct value engineering exercises to optimise project costs and improve efficiency.
Provide cost advice during the design and construction phases to minimise project costs and enhance value.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on financial and contractual matters.
Liaise with clients, contractors, and subcontractors to maintain strong working relationships.
Risk & Opportunity Management:
Identify commercial risks and opportunities within the project, recommending solutions for cost optimisation.
Lead on the resolution of commercial disputes, ensuring outcomes align with project objectives.
Team Leadership & Mentorship:
Supervise and mentor junior quantity surveyors, providing guidance on best practices in cost management and contract administration.
Support the development of the commercial team, ensuring knowledge transfer and skills development.
Qualifications & Experience:
Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
MRICS/MCIOB accreditation (or equivalent) is highly desirable.
Extensive experience (8+ years) in a Quantity Surveying role, with a focus on reinforced concrete and civil engineering.
Strong knowledge of contract forms, including NEC and JCT.
Proven experience in managing large-scale civil infrastructure projects.
Proficient in cost planning, financial reporting, and procurement processes.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
Familiarity with relevant software (e.g., CostX, CATO, or similar).

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work well under pressure.
Salary has been quoted as £75,000 pa (DOE) + car allowance, healthcare, pension etc.
