Mechanical Estimator

Location: Northampton (Office based – discretionary 1 day/week WFH)
Salary: £20,000 – £70,000 + car / allowance + benefits
Level: Assistant Estimator through to Senior Estimator

Role Summary

A leading MEP contractor is seeking a Mechanical Estimator at Assistant through to Senior level to strengthen its pre-construction team due to sustained growth and a strong forward workload. The role offers exposure to technically complex mechanical packages across large-scale MEP projects.

The business has a healthy order book and is actively securing work well into 2027-2029.

Company Overview

Operating across multiple non-residential sectors, the company delivers high-value MEP projects typically ranging from £5m to £50m, supported by a highly experienced estimating function. The team structure includes 2 senior bid leads, with dedicated electrical and mechanical estimating teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare mechanical estimates including HVAC, pipework and plant systems

  • Complete take-offs, cost plans, tender pricing and bid documentation

  • Utilise Trimble and estimating software to support accurate pricing

  • Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to build competitive tenders

  • Assist in bid reviews, value engineering and risk assessment

  • Support bid leads on major tenders and complex projects

  • Contribute to improving estimating accuracy and efficiency

Requirements

  • Background in mechanical estimating within MEP / building services

  • Experience across commercial and non-residential sectors

  • Exposure to projects with £5m – £50m MEP values

  • Familiarity with Trimble or similar estimating tools advantageous

  • Ability to work effectively within a collaborative estimating team

Package & Benefits

  • Salary £20,000 – £70,000 depending on experience

Working Hours

  • 38.5 hours per week

  • Mon-Thurs: 8:30am-5:00pm (30 min lunch)

  • Fri: 8:30am-4:00pm (1 hour lunch)
