Mechanical Estimator

Location: Maidstone (Office-Based)
Salary: Up to £70,000 (DOE)
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent


The Company

A growing and well-established mechanical contractor is expanding its Projects / Contracts Team with the appointment of a Mechanical Estimator.

This is a growth hire, as estimating responsibilities are currently shared across the team. The successful candidate will take ownership of the estimating function and play a key role in supporting continued business expansion.

Mechanical packages range from £2,000 up to £2 million across a variety of sectors.


The Role

The position is primarily pre-construction focused, with some commercial crossover including variations and cost management where required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing drawings, schematics, specifications and tender documentation

  • Preparing accurate and detailed mechanical cost estimates

  • Completing material, labour and equipment take-offs

  • Preparing and submitting competitive tenders and bids

  • Producing and submitting PQQ and ITT documentation

  • Identifying commercial risks and providing mitigation strategies

  • Negotiating with suppliers and manufacturers to secure best pricing

  • Liaising with engineers, subcontractors and clients to clarify scope

  • Managing variations and supporting commercial processes

  • Maintaining accurate estimating records and cost databases


Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in mechanical estimating or similar role

  • Strong understanding of mechanical building services systems

  • Confident analysing drawings and technical documentation

  • Commercially aware with strong analytical skills

  • Relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or similar

  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail

  • Able to work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Desirable:

  • Experience using SimPro (training provided)

  • CAD experience or qualification


Working Hours

Monday to Friday
8:00am – 5:30pm
Fully office-based in Maidstone
