Mechanical Project Manager

Location: North West
Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 + Car Allowance + Discretionary Bonus

Role Summary

We are recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to join a commercial construction and fit-out contractor operating across the North West.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing multiple mechanical projects at any one time, with package values typically ranging from £50,000 to £1 million.

This is a hands-on position suited to someone who is comfortable taking ownership of projects from pre-construction through to completion, while supporting estimating, health & safety, commercial management and client liaison.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple mechanical projects from pre-construction through to completion
  • Oversee mechanical packages ranging from £50k to £1m
  • Manage project programmes, labour, materials, plant and subcontractors
  • Manage a direct team of approximately 3-5 staff
  • Coordinate and supervise mechanical subcontractors
  • Review mechanical drawings, specifications and designs
  • Manage the installation of mechanical building services including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing and associated pipework systems
  • Support estimating, tendering and procurement when required
  • Monitor project budgets, costs and delivery against programme
  • Manage procurement and ensure materials and equipment are available in line with project requirements
  • Ensure high standards of health & safety across all projects
  • Prepare and review RAMS
  • Attend client, design team and site meetings
  • Provide regular project progress updates
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams
  • Resolve technical, design and operational issues throughout the project lifecycle
  • Manage commissioning, testing, snagging and handover requirements
  • Ensure projects are delivered to the required quality, programme and commercial standards

Experience Required

  • Previous experience as a Mechanical Project Manager, Mechanical Contracts Manager or similar
  • Strong mechanical building services knowledge
  • Good understanding of HVAC, heating, ventilation, plumbing and pipework systems
  • Experience delivering commercial construction, refurbishment or fit-out projects
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong subcontractor and site management experience
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications and technical information
  • Good commercial awareness, including project budgets and cost control
  • Experience with estimating, procurement or tender support would be beneficial
  • Strong understanding of construction health & safety requirements
  • Experience managing mechanical testing, commissioning and project handover
  • Confident dealing directly with clients, consultants and project stakeholders

Qualifications

A relevant mechanical engineering, building services, plumbing/heating or HVAC qualification would be advantageous, although candidates with strong practical mechanical experience will also be considered.
