Senior Electrical Estimator / Commercial Manager

Electrical Maintenance & Compliance | Essex (Hybrid)
£85,000+ Basic + Bonus + Car Allowance

The Role

Strong Group is working with a technology-led electrical compliance and maintenance business based in Essex to appoint a Senior Electrical Estimator / Commercial Manager.

This is a senior, high-impact role responsible for leading pricing, estimation, and bid governance across electrical maintenance contracts and tenders. The position reports directly into the Directors and will play a key role in shaping how the business prices, wins, and delivers work.

Initially, the role will remain hands-on with estimating and bid production, transitioning into a more strategic commercial leadership position as the business continues to scale.

This opportunity suits an experienced Electrical Estimator who wants to step beyond pure take-offs and spreadsheets into a trusted commercial leadership role.

The Business

Our client operates in complex and mission-critical electrical environments, delivering compliance, maintenance, and assurance services under long-term contracts and frameworks.

This is not a traditional construction contractor. The business is deliberately structured around systems, data, and repeatable commercial models – not reactive pricing, claims, or conflict-led delivery.

They work with enterprise clients who value professionalism, clarity, and long-term partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Leadership & Governance

  • Lead the end-to-end estimating and bid process from bid/no-bid through to handover

  • Establish and maintain bid governance (reviews, approvals, sign-off, version control)

  • Set pricing rules, margin thresholds, contingency and risk allowances

  • Maintain commercial discipline and consistency across all bids

Pricing, Estimation & Bids

  • Produce and oversee electrical maintenance quotes and tenders

  • Interrogate scope, challenge assumptions, and identify risk or missing information

  • Ensure pricing aligns with delivery capability, compliance obligations, and margin protection

  • Develop structured pricing models and repeatable estimating approaches

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop the existing commercial support team (currently 4 staff)

  • Build scalable processes, templates, and systems as the function grows

  • Act as a commercial partner to operations and leadership

Experience & Requirements

  • Proven experience as an Electrical Estimator in technically complex environments

  • Background in electrical, M&E, maintenance, FM, or compliance-led services

  • Strong understanding of electrical systems from a lifecycle and compliance perspective

  • Comfortable working with structured commercial models and data

  • Practical electrical knowledge with ability to challenge scope (BS 7671 awareness expected)

  • Strong Excel and commercial modelling capability

  • Experience implementing processes, governance, and standard ways of working

Personal Attributes

  • Calm, professional, and commercially grounded

  • Low ego, high trust approach

  • Values structure, clarity, and long-term thinking

  • Comfortable holding standards and making commercial decisions

  • Looking to build a long-term career, not chase short-term wins

Package

  • Salary from £85,000 (flexible for the right individual)

  • Performance-related bonus

  • Car allowance

  • Hybrid working (Essex office base)

  • Laptop & mobile phone

  • Pension

  • Generous annual leave (23 days + bank holidays + service uplifts)

  • Funded training and professional development

  • Christmas shutdown

Who This Role Is Not For

  • Estimators who thrive on last-minute tenders and chaos

  • Claims-led or variation-dependent commercial operators

  • Ego-driven or confrontation-heavy environments

  • Anyone looking for a short-term stopgap role
