Contract Manager – Groundworks & Civils

Location: Basildon
Salary: £60,000-£75,000 per annum, dependent on experience

Strong Group is recruiting for an experienced Contract Manager to oversee the operational and commercial delivery of groundworks and civil engineering projects.

You will manage projects from pre-commencement through to completion, ensuring works are delivered safely, profitably and in line with programme, cost and quality expectations. Acting as the main link between site teams, the office and senior management, you will also maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for the operational and commercial performance of assigned projects.
• Plan and manage projects from pre-start through to completion and handover.
• Monitor programme, cost, quality, health and safety, and client satisfaction.
• Manage site managers, supervisors, subcontractors and project resources.
• Produce and review project programmes, budgets and forward-planning schedules.
• Oversee procurement, material reconciliation and subcontractor appointments.
• Monitor project costs, variations and commercial risks.
• Attend tender handovers, pre-start meetings and project progress meetings.
• Maintain accurate project reporting and raise any issues promptly.
• Ensure temporary and permanent design requirements are managed in line with the programme.
• Lead health, safety and environmental standards across all projects.
• Build strong working relationships with clients, suppliers and project teams.

Requirements

• Proven experience in a Contract Manager or similar project delivery position.
• Strong knowledge of groundworks and civil engineering projects.
• Experience managing site teams, subcontractors and multiple live projects.
• Good understanding of project programming, procurement and cost control.
• Commercial awareness, including the management of variations and additional works.
• Strong knowledge of construction health and safety requirements.
• Confident communication, leadership and client-facing skills.
• CSCS.
• SMSTS.
• First Aid at Work.

Package

• £60,000-£75,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
• Permanent position.
• Based in Basildon, with travel to project sites as required.

This role would suit an organised and commercially aware Contract Manager who can lead project teams, manage multiple priorities and maintain high standards across safety, programme, cost and quality.
